วัด คือเขตแดนแห่งความสงบ ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ ให้ผู้คนได้ละทิ้งปล่อยวาง และถือว่าเป็นต้นทางแห่งการดับทุกข์ของเหล่าพระสงฆ์ทั้งหลาย รวมทั้งเป็นที่พึ่งพิงของอุบาสกอุบาสิกาได้เข้ามาสั่งสมบุญไว้มีใช้ในชาตินี้ เลยไปจนถึงชาติหน้าตามแต่กำลังศรัทธาและกำลังทรัพย์ของแต่ละบุคคล หากสำหรับ เล็ก - กำธร เภาวัฒนาสุข วัดเปรียบได้ดังแกลลอรี่ หรือพิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะที่บรรจุเอางานศิลปะไทยเก่า-ใหม่-ร่วมสมัย ที่ต่างสำแดงพลังใส่กันอย่างถึงพริกถึงขิง
กำธรเริ่มสำรวจ และบันทึกปรากฏการณ์เหล่านี้ตั้งแต่ปี 2551 ตั้งแต่การกำเนิดขึ้นของ “เกจิทองคำ” จนมาถึง “เกจิหุ่นขี้ผึ้ง” ที่สมจริงทุกกระเบียดนิ้วไม่ต่างกับหุ่นขี้ผึ้งมาดามทุสโซ กำธรได้พบเจออุโบสถที่สร้างด้วยอลูมีเนียม ถ้ำเรซิ่นที่จำแลงแปลงกายเป็นวังพญานาค โบสถ์ที่มีบันไดเลื่อนอำนวยความสะดวกให้ญาติโยมตอนมาทำบุญที่วัด เลยไปจนถึงการจัดวางรูปปั้นไดโนเสาร์และเหล่าซุปเปอร์ฮีโร่อเวนเจอร์ตามจุดต่างๆในวัดเพื่อดึงดูดวัยรุ่นฟันน้ำนม
"ดินแดนศักดิ์สิทธิ์" เป็นดังโครงการระยะยาวที่เฝ้ามองความเป็นไปของพุทธศิลป์ร่วมสมัยในวัดไทยที่จับเอาประติมากรรมพิศดารและสิ่งล้ำยุคต่างๆใส่เข้าไปอย่างวิจิตรตระการตาเพื่อชักจูงชาวพุทธให้เข้ามาตักตวงบุญ และลิ้มรสพระธรรมขององค์พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ความสนุกเหล่านี้กำลังเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างทวีคูณจนแทบจะฉุดไม่อยู่ ซึ่งนอกเหนือจากรูปปั้นประติมากรรม ยังเลยไปถึงการผนวกเอาตำนานอภินิหารที่เพิ่งสร้างมาเกื้อหนุนส่งเสริม หรือการผสมข้ามวัฒนธรรมอย่างการสร้างเสาโทริอิของญี่ปุ่นคล่อมไปกับบันไดพญานาคที่มุ่งไปสู่พระอุโบสถ รอบข้างประดับด้วยต้นซากุระเทียมสีสดใส และแมวกวัก นับเป็นสุดยอดความคิดสร้างสรรค์ที่ไม่อาจคาดถึง
มีคำพูดตอนหนึ่งที่น่าสนใจของกำธรว่า “หากวันหนึ่งโลกล่มสลาย แล้วนักโบราณคดีในอนาคตมาขุดเจอรูปปั้นไดโนเสาร์ที่ไม่เคยมีการบันทึกไว้ในประวัติศาสตร์ พวกเขาจะตีความว่าอย่างไร..” เป็นคำถามที่น่าสนใจ คำตอบคงเป็นเรื่องของเหล่านักโบราณคดี และลูกหลานในอนาคตช่วยกันปวดหัวหาคำตอบ ส่วนพวกเราพุทธศาสนิกชนที่ดีในปัจจุบัน ขอให้สนุกสุดเหวี่ยง และได้บุญกุศลกันทุกถ้วนหน้ากับดินแดนศักดิ์สิทธิ์ทั้งหลายเหล่านี้

Temples (Wat) are considered sacred places where people can come to let go of their worries and seek peace. They are also seen as places where monks can attain enlightenment and where people can accumulate merit for this life and beyond.
For Kamthorn Paowattanasuk (Lek), temples are also like galleries or museums that showcase Thai art from the past, present, and contemporary. He has been observing and documenting these artistic objects since 2008, from the rise of "golden figure monks" to the emergence of "wax figure monks" that are as realistic as Madame Tussauds wax figures. Lek has seen temples built with aluminum, resin caves that transform into Naga (พญานาค) palaces, and temples with escalators for the convenience of worshippers. He has also seen dinosaur statues and Marvel superheroes placed in temples to attract kids.
Holy Land is a long-term project that explores the contemporary Buddhist art found in Thai temples. These temples often incorporate bizarre sculptures and futuristic objects in order to attract Buddhists to come and make merit. This trend is growing rapidly and seems unstoppable. In addition to the sculptures, the newly created miraculous legends that are associated with them, as well as the cross-cultural mixing, such as the construction of a Japanese Torii Gate that is combined with a Naga staircase leading to the ordination hall, surrounded by Cherry Blossom trees and Maneki Neko. This is an incredibly creative and unexpected idea from the creator.
Lek said, "If one day the world collapses and future archaeologists come to excavate these dinosaur statues that have never been recorded in history, how will they interpret them?" This is a good question that will no doubt be a source of headaches for future archaeologists and their descendants. As for us, the good Buddhists today, let’s enjoy ourselves and gain merit from these holy lands.
Kamthorn Paowattanasuk (Lek) is a well-known Thai photo artist and former assistant to photographer Surat Osathanugrah. Kamthorn is passionate about travel, and his work explores and reveals social and environmental landscapes. His work has been exhibited both in Thailand and abroad, including at The King of Our Heart, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Bangkok (2017), Postcard from Thailand, RMA Institute, Bangkok (2014), Month of Photography, M Gallery, Tokyo (2010), The Orange Photo Festival, Changza (2010).
