Say something about yourself?

My name is Naraphat Sakarthornsap, I started creating artworks using a photograph as medium. The important factor is “flower” that is a main protagonist of a series of creative works. A flower gives me a sense of profoundness and delicacy as long as I could remember. I spent my time watching photographs in albums since I was a child and roaming around to look for flowers everywhere that I closely take a photo of them. Hence, a flower is an object keeping my precious memories of different ages.
Having exhibited my photographs at Photo Bangkok 2015 in Thailand and received Young Thai Artist Awards in the following year, I was greatly proud of myself. The coming disadvantage occurred when I was under too much stress. Nevertheless, this series was finally created.

What is this series?

This series, called “Ignorant Bond”, is a project cooperating between objects and places that I have ignored while being stressed out and pressurized by various matters. I just wanted to give myself break from stressful artwork creation and reminisced about when I could create artwork enjoyably because I happily wanted to create it without social interference.
Arranging various species of flowers with these objects and places allowed me to be immersed in those surroundings again. Without looking past or walking past them, I felt more at ease when creating this series. We cannot be happy every day, but I believe this short duration of this series creation is worth and encouraging for me when I need to reminisce about the time I needed strength.

What message do you want to tell the audience?

Sometimes, life cannot grant all of what we wish. Since them, we can choose to create it in our style though it is a small piece of happiness or a short yet worth moment for us. We can enjoy every kind of unforgettable happiness. Flower was brought to connect with places where I used to look past or walk past them with disregard. By creating this series, I have become closer with them. We may forget or ignore intentionally. Once we immediately become aware of them, we can choose either to prioritize them or to let them be like we normally do in daily life. I have a faith that many people are still stressed out by many things in lives. But happiness and suffering are like different kinds of flowers that bloom and wither seasonably. No flowers always bloom and no flowers wither without blooming again.

Any news or updates?

I am currently working on new series that is developed from Ignorant Bond series with a handcrafted leather handbags, Thai Designer “31 Thanwa”. Getting an opportunity to create new art is a great honor. I almost lost my train of thought how I could be myself to work with others through art creation. Once I started to create them together, I was impressed. My solo exhibition is probably held next year but it’s still my top secret. Besides that, you can enjoy the arts and the additional information from the book “108 Anticipating Contemporary Artists” soon.

Naraphat Sakarthornsap graduated from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. Flowers are important elements of the stories behind his artworks and flowers have always played a big role ever since his very first memories. He always used flowers as the main objects in creating art. It is not only because flowers are beautiful but flowers also represent all his feelings. These deep-seated memories are the best tools to reflect his identity.
